Trekking in the Andes can be difficult but you can hire with mules to carry your bags to designated camping points you will spend the night. This leaves you carrying just what you need for the day and your hands free to take incredible photos.

Colchagua Valley

Situated in the midst of the Colchagua Valley, just a few hours drive from the capital Santiago, a top Andean trek starts in the foothills of the Andes among ancient oak forests. The area is dotted with active volcanoes, hot springs and glaciers, making it a truly unique trekking destination.

Stay in beautiful lodges, like the Tumuñan Lodge, and head up into the mountains from there, exploring some of the unique flora and fauna that’s found there. Look out for rare species of plant and keep your eyes peeled for the iconic Andean condor soaring above you.

You can also explore the Colchagua Valley itself, home to some of the world’s finest wines and vineyards. Discover mountain towns complete with well-preserved colonial architecture and discover the last remnants of the pre-Columbian world.

La Campaña National Park

This huge national park is ideal for Central Chilean Andes trekking adventures, with trails that lead up past old quartz mines and into unique microclimates influenced by the Pacific Ocean.

It’s an ideal spot for a day hike, starting at the entrance to the park and making your way through the well-preserved surroundings.

El Morado glacier

With typical Andean towns and villages at its foot, the El Morado glacier is a stunning place for trekking. The beautiful mountains of El Morado, Cerro Union and Cerro Arenas provide the perfect backdrop for a hiking adventure.

Look out for Andean foxes, condors and eagles along the way and get your camera ready for the simply breathtaking views from the glacier. At 2,600 metres above sea level and the incredible Andes all around, this is trekking like no other place in the world.
